Branier Orthopedic Custom Molded Shoes, Inserts & Braces, through a collaboration with Click Medical, is now offering the patented Boa® closure system in their custom molded shoe lines (www.branier.org).
By integrating a Click Medical kit containing Boa® components, Branier can manufacture custom molded shoes capable of achieving an unprecedented fit to patients with limited manual dexterity. Adjustable with the use of a single hand, Boa’s mechanical reel system works to draw its steel cable through a series of easy glide nylon guides.
Historically, patients with compromised hand function have often been plagued by an inability to secure a “snug fit” in a custom molded shoe. Having been previously constrained to shoes with Velcro flap closure systems, patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis, for example, are often times incapable of generating the sensory feedback established by a shoe with a secure fit. This lack of control sometimes lends to a shuffled gate where patients drag their feet as they ambulate, creating a large potential trip and fall hazard. Till now, few options existed for a custom molded shoe closure system capable of achieving high levels of tension and control while simultaneously requiring minimal effort of the patient.
With the capacity to easily generate tension across the vamp of a shoe, comparable to or in excess of that achieved with standard laces, Branier’s Custom Molded Shoe’s integration of the Boa® reel and cable closure system uniquely offers a novel solution to patient histories troubled by an inability to achieve a snug fit.
