In a historic moment for advocates of orthotic and prosthetic care, recent legislative successes in Arkansas (HB 1252), Colorado (HB 1136), and New Mexico (HB 131) have elevated the cause to new heights. These states, along with Maine (LD 1003), are now at the forefront of enacting legislation that ensures coverage for orthotic and prosthetic care essential for physical activity across all age groups through the So Every BODY Can Move (formerly known as “So Kids Can Move”). An initiative to provide greater access to specialized orthotic and prosthetic care used for physical activity.
Illinois (SB 2195) is poised to join this transformative movement. This positive momentum is further echoed by the introduction of similar legislation in the following states; Indiana (HB 1433), Minnesota (HF 3339 / SF 3351), New Jersey (SB 3919), and New Hampshire (SB 177)
Looking ahead, the initiative anticipates a promising future, with expectations of a dozen bills being introduced in 2024. This collective effort underscores the commitment to making orthotic and prosthetic care accessible to all, transcending state borders and creating a national movement for equitable healthcare. The recent legislative triumphs mark a turning point, heralding a future where individuals of all ages can lead active lives with the support they need, thanks to the unwavering dedication of advocates across the country like Kyle Stepp.
Kyle is a great friend of ours at Click Medical and we are proud of all the hard work he has done both in the courtroom and out on the bike as he trains for the Paralympic Games of Paris 2024.
