physical therapist amputee specialist here in hot sticky sweaty Tampa Florida with me tonight I have my sponsors one
of my sponsors for 2023 click medical they are the creators and the inventors of one of the adjustable system
technologies that we’re going to be going over tonight and we have Jimmy Capra CEO and co-founder of Click
medical and then we have Kyle stepp and I’m just going to introduce him as amazing human being and I’m going to let
him tell you all about himself because it’s just he’s just an amazing human being so guys welcome to the show thank you

I love that you love New Mexico so next time you come visit let me know happy to show you new places that you haven’t
been before um but as close to mentioned my name is Kyle stepp and I am an above the amputee
from Albuquerque New Mexico a little over two years ago I I became a member of our community after downhill mountain
bike accident and over the past two years have found healing and purpose through physical activity and movement
I’m currently pursuing the Paralympics in Triathlon as well as so many of us
that have experienced just the challenges to get access to the care that we all deserve and so my personal
passion right now is doing legislative change across the United States to bridge the gap to access to Prosthetics
and Orthotics right and then Jimmy tell us a little bit about you oh
um yeah Jimmy caparov um gosh gosh uh one of the weird things about myself I’ve been in business for myself since I
was eight years old and um and I just I just love creating businesses and I love creating uh products that really help
people so it’s been a really great adventure over the last eight years creating click medical and to see the
impact that just as small and simple idea can really have on on people and
and their ability to really live the lives that they want to live so excited to talk to you about that tonight
yes absolutely and guys you know this is my second year working with click medical as an official sponsor of the
show and I I am not tired of talking about click medical when it comes up in conversation a lot when I’m talking to
folks within the community and it’s it’s definitely um growing a lot and a lot of people are noticing it and using the product and
very happy you have a lot of loyal fans here on the show right now too we’ve got Johnny V from Poughkeepsie New York and the Cozy talks house we got Jerry oh

all you have to do is text cozy talks and all caps one word to that number and I promise I don’t spam your phone or any
blow it up or anything like that I just send you a reminder when I go live and I include the links in there to make it
super easy for you we’ve got Marianne coming in from South Dakota we’ve got Chuck on board and we had Mo here I
forgot there was Mo from Canada all right we got our Canadians on board so guys tonight we’re going to give you a
brief overview of all the fun toys that click medical has to offer we’re going to focus a little bit more on their new
technology because they’re always improving upon their designs there all right so
Jamie’s telling us we have to smile because she’s gonna take a screenshot all right Jamie ready one
there you go Jamie I hope you got it okay so guys click medical came about the
other founder is uh Joe and he’s been on the show several times as well so Joe is a prosthetist he was out skiing with his
wife and one of his patients called saying that they were having a problem with the the limb volume in the socket
the socket was just too big and he saw that his wife was adjusting her ski boot
with this cool little boa dial and that’s where the creation of the revofit system came into play right Jimmy
yeah that was the that was the inspiration right like Joe was really hoping that he could find a way where
where a patient actually had to control themselves rather than having to
realize a difficulty or or um you know poor fit then make an appointment and come in for a visit
um really most everyone would love to be able to just dial in the fit right when they need it and that was what he was
looking for and and when he saw his his wife dial in her snowboard boot he knew he had found an idea that would that
might work so guys I’ve been using the word adjustability we were talking about dialing it in so for a lot of you who
are new to being an amputee or maybe many of you who have been amputees but you’re just not sure what I’m talking about when you become an amputee
obviously one of the biggest obstacles when you’re first learning to use your prosthesis is adjusting the fit of your
socket and Kyle you’re still fairly recent from your your own amputation right so you can probably comment on
just how much your residual limb fluctuates in that first year year and a half after surgery right absolutely cozy
because when you originally you know the amputation happens you have a large volume there’s a lot of volume in a
residual limb that’s full of fluid and also so many your muscles are starting to heal the tendons are starting to heal
there’s so much complication that’s happening so you have a ton of inflammation and so it can happen
quickly and it can also happen over time where your limb does start to shrink
where you lose volume where you’re naturally maturing into your residual limb but I’ll tell you I’m still on that
Journey um there there could be like honestly two weeks ago I didn’t have I didn’t
need apply but now I do but lucky enough I’m able to adjust my socket um to be able to meet that demand no no
little plug in there but really I think the beautiful thing is being able to
have adjustability absolutely so we got Compadre and comadre on board we got Liz coming in
and Sandra thank you for joining us so guys we’ll do a quick cozy poll I want to hear from you how many of you
fluctuate on a daily basis whether you’re a new amputee or whether you are
years out of your amputation right because I think this is what catches a lot of my newer patients by surprise hey
we got Lou on board checking in from Santa Barbara California what’s up Lou
right so I think this is what causes a lot of confusion with a lot of my patients because they’re just like okay I’m almost a year and a half out of my
imputation my limb is changing every day what okay right and especially here in
Florida we joke about the hot sticky humidity and sweaty weather but that’s a huge Factor right Kyle that’s huge
traveling because cozy being here in New Mexico we have drier weather so I I sweat
um but I did not sweat as much as I went to Florida and I didn’t realize how much that impacted the volume of my residual
was not prepared for that um and that was that’s one of those blessings is when you do have the
adjustability right then and there you can meet that need and be able to make sure you have the fitting socket no
matter where you are freezing cold South Dakota our friends in South Dakota we know whether raising South Dakota or all
the way to hot sunny Florida absolutely so we got comments coming in so Benny says I still fluctuate and Benny’s been
out for a long time Emily says I have lymphedema so swelling is a constant battle Diana says six years out still
having the the fluctuations Johnny V same thing 21 years and still fluctuate and guys even in what’s considered to be
a mature limb you’re going to have fluctuations I have one gentleman his name is not joking James Bond
um and he’s an above the knee amputee and he’s been an amputee for decades now and he says I wake up in the morning and
I have five ply by lunch 10 ply by dinner time on 15 ply and then I start everything again the next morning so
he’s mature in the sense that it’s the same pattern but there’s fluctuation even within that okay and then Emily
brought up a very good point she has she struggles with lymphedema okay so your medical conditions I always say you know
those of you who lost your limb due to vascular issues and diabetic issues those are still present in your body and
they’re still you know causing some problems and that can be seen with your limb fluctuating getting bigger and
smaller okay so again one of the biggest frustrations for my patients is that fit
right how many ply socks do I put on how many socks do I take off when do I do
this what a pain in the neck I’ve got to take this thing on and off five times a day right
so go see one point there too is you know most of us don’t like to take our
pants off unless we’re in a private space right there’s just that small you know
so you know the the ability to to use socks to manage for volume it works
but boy that inconvenience of having to stop what you’re doing find a private place disrobe try it again and the
really crazy part is that oftentimes when you take your leg off it starts to swell a little bit and then you put the
sock on and then you put the socket on and and already it doesn’t quite fit right until you start ambulating again
yeah so that’s what we’re trying to address is the ease and ability to to manage that volume with just a simple
turn of a dial even and then even through your clothing absolutely and then the last thing I
hear from my patients is first thing in the morning right even those of you who still wear your shrinker at night and you have to do the Hop skip dance to get
into your socket right and some of you will tell me I have to walk 34 steps and then I finally start to see I mean right
finally sinking into the socket um so yeah and I’m getting all these comments here Mo says I’ve been an
amputee for almost 12 years and it’s fluctuating and it’s really inconvenient so let’s talk a little bit about what they’ve created here right so we’ve got
a lot of toys I’ve got all my toys here so let’s talk a little bit about
so if you talk to your prosthetist and you say I want to have an adjustable socket let’s get the revo fit system
right your prosthetist will build your socket right and this is something I really want to make it a point to to
make this point because many of you do have wonderful prosthetists who make beautiful sockets right so they’re still
in charge of making the socket they will order the revofit kit and inside this
kit they’re going to have all the materials they need to build the adjustability into the socket so and
it’s Kyla’s lovely demonstrating right there right and I have one of my friends here right so there’s several different
ways they have a panel design where they can cut out panels like this they have a
gap and then a huge design I don’t happen to have a hinge design with me do you
happen to have one Jimmy yeah the Hamish design you know opens opens to allow for
really easy um Dawning and Doffing and then and it also is great for limbs that aren’t quite Cinderella or or maybe a little
bit bulbous on the end you can get in without all that pressure and then you can close the door up and create the fit
that way it really just says that easy as simple as what hit he just Twisted right there and you’re in the socket now a lot of
people get confused because they see all this action on my model socket so Guys these are just the different options and
that’s kind of what I like is everybody is shaped a little bit differently everybody needs that relief in the
little different places so it’s nice to have these options Kyle what do you have what do which which model do you have I
know yeah so um on mine I personally have the Gap
um that’s where I found to be the best here so where I can adjust it right here and being able to open it up and close
it um you could tell that it’s closed because I finished running earlier and so halfway through the run I had to
tighten it because I lost some volume in the middle of my run and that’s what I love too is knowing when I start my run
it’s going to be my my residual limb is often a little bit more swollen
um just naturally sitting throughout the day I think so many of us will can sit throughout the day whether you’re working or you’re at home and you’ll
naturally just increase in volume and when I went to go put into my running leg I was like oh that’s a little tight
10 minutes into the run it was already loose and I already started losing volume and so for me I don’t want to
skip a beat I don’t think any of us want to skip a beat we just want to keep going so the ability while on the Run
um tightened it and got it to the perfect um to the perfect fit I needed and not
having to take everything off because guys you all know yeah yeah I I love working with Runners and I
see so many times especially on Instagram so the runners I follow you see them just taking their leg off mid-run wiping things down trying to get
it back on and put come on no cozy before I will tell you before I had before I had the click dial
on my running leg I’d be in the middle of a run I’d be sweating my leg would
this is crazy but it would fall off because I would lose suction because I didn’t have I couldn’t have the
tightness and I’d be in the middle of the street it’s kind of the funniest things I’d be in the middle of the side of the street trying to hold the
telephone pole wiping my leg off because I’m sweating so much and now like I
don’t worry about that I can you know I I know that I can get to the end of my run
um by adjusting the tightness or you know by loosening it as well because there might be times you may have a
little bit of swelling in the middle of your run that naturally happens as well so for you to be able to have that perfect comfort so you don’t skip a beat
absolutely and guys I’m gonna pause for a moment because I realized I forgot to announce the winner of our email subscription um
so the email of our winner subscription is Mark sovich so Mark congratulations we’ll be emailing you and you will be
receiving uh one of these click medical Yeti mugs these are really nice guys
congratulations to you and we’re actually going to go ahead and post our next giveaway so guys this one is our
Instagram giveaway and Jamie my Vanna White behind the scenes is going to put the handle up
there for us it’ll take a moment but she’ll get there
all right Olga good question she’s asking does the prosthetist need special training to do this so Jimmy I’m gonna
let you answer that one yeah I mean that’s a great question um some training yeah um we do offer a
very comprehensive class that uh prosthetists can take at any time right
so if you came in to your prosthetist and you wanted an adjustable socket but they didn’t know how to do it that’s no
problem uh they they will need to do a little bit of training within about an hour of of training and then maybe a
little bit of practice they can start to have the skills that they need in order to start to make an adjustable socket
there’s also some great ways for sockets to be made by people who do this all the time so you know if your process uses a
central fabrication um facility those guys are building these all the time so there you can have
a lot of confidence that your prosthetist can do this for you and I see a lot of my local prosthetists
using the click medical and guys I do have to make the statement there are other adjustable system Solutions out
there on the market um I will just flat out say I prefer the click medical one I’ve tried I’ve worked
with some of the other ones that are out there and they’re good systems I have patients who are happy with them but I consistently keep going back to
recommending The Click medical I just like all the variations that are available um aesthetically I like how it looks
it’s very aesthetically pleasing and Sleek um and it’s just it’s easy it’s easy and
comfortable for my patients so guys the link that click medical just posted is to their Instagram okay so listen
carefully because here’s the here’s the and I just lost my train of thought for just a split second there’s the mom
brain kicking in all right here’s what you got to do go to their Instagram site and you’re gonna see some of the
benefits okay about the new click reel that just came out all right so look at
those benefits and tell us which benefit you’re most excited about and I want you to put that in the comments section okay
so Lou says great to see you guys just came back from the process of my new socket and I was so thankful to be able
to adjust my socket on the three hour drive home from La if it was a if it was
La that probably means you only had to drive two miles but it took you three hours isn’t that the truth I was gonna say the
same thing cozy I was like so how far did you go
all right Kimberly I’m gonna hold you to it to watch the replay Emily asked a really good question how do you know the
prosthesis is fitting if you don’t have great sensation I have l45 spina bifida so Emily believe it or not a lot of
amputees even if they have full sensation they have to learn what the good fit the right fit feels like and it
really is a feeling so even if you don’t have complete sensation right when you work with your physical therapist and
adjusting the fit of your socket there’s going to come a point in time where your physical therapist says this this is how
it’s supposed to fit or your prosthetist right so as a physical therapist I look at landmarks I look to see how the skin
is reacting you know is there redness do I see pressure points somewhere and when I feel like I have a really good fit on
that socket I’ll tell the patient okay take kind of a mental picture of what this feels like how you feel like when
you’re standing this is how it should fit and this is how it should feel so even though you have impaired sensation
you’re still going to get a feeling as to how it should fit once your
prosthetist gets the right fit on there so I’m probably not I don’t know if I’m making sense but Kyle you’re the one who can really talk to us about this
yeah absolutely so I think one of the main things is as you’re feeling the sensation so knowing that you may have a
little bit of challenges with the Sensation that you personally have um you’ll notice where you can sense how
much Gap you may have in inside the socket so knowing so knowing ideally
your the inside of your inside of your socket is having constant contact with
your with your residual limb to the point where it’s comfortable because sometimes too much contact can be
uncomfortable but knowing that you’re keeping your suspension inside your socket where you’re able to make sure
that it’s staying intact at the bottom depending on your your suspension system which could be a great segue into the
next part as well but as well as ensuring that you have the contact and
so knowing you may not know how tight is just be able to check you can check by the inside of your hand to see how much
room or space you may have and to be able to ideally you you don’t want to be
able to fit your hand in and so knowing that you have if you’re not able to put
your hand in there you’re you’re able to have that Constant Contact and that’s how you can check is by you know taking
your hand around your residual limb in the brim of your socket to check to make
sure you have that contact if you can’t feel the sensation personally and then also checking your skin Emily
when you take everything off if you have pinkness and maybe just a touch of redness but it subsides after a few
minutes then you know you’re on the right track if you have redness that is persistent and is staying there then you
know it’s too tight right um and it’s it’s it’s a guessing check you’ve got to you’ve got to go through
the learning process again with your process of physical therapist helping you out with this uh zerot asks any
online training about this socket yes so there’s uh it’s called click Academy and
it’s on the click Medical website and I know Jamie will probably put that link up for us
um and they have a lot of online courses there I’ve actually been going through them myself
uh let’s see Drew good question what happens if your distal limb shrinks is there a way to adjust it or just the
sides adjust does the adjusting the socket cause more volume lost and does the compression cause the limb to lose
more volume so Jimmy do you want to grab that one yeah I think that’s a great question um and we we have had some feedback in
the past that that folks who now now have the capability to to compress compress compress sometimes they will
see over time a a change in their overall limb volume
um what is interesting right is that we as humans we kind of think that well if tight is good then tighter is better
um and that’s not always the case right so it’s kind of a bit of a learning curve to figure out what is this what is
the right amount of of compression for myself and and and might I do that amount of compression at the right time
so for example Kyle might really enjoy having a pretty tight socket during his run but while he’s cooking in the
kitchen or if he’s sitting on the couch the the beauty is you can expand that socket and let the fluid back into your
limb which is great for limb Health it’s a bit more comfortable uh your overall tissue is happier so it’s really a bit
of a learning process not unlike figuring out how to use socks this is just a whole lot easier to try to figure
out I’m going to dial in some tension or I’m going to dial out some some expansion I think that’s a really
important part that you just brought up Jimmy is the ability to loosen to tighten and loosen
um knowing because that’s more often than not the only solution is to tighten it
um and so knowing that you have that adjustability by just dialing in I mean it could be micro a very very small
adjustment or really large and that’s really the important part is when your prosthetist is going through that
process is there they want to give you a little bit extra room too knowing that whether it’s you may have some increase
in volume that was something you know we discovered um that I had a little bit of muscle gain that we did not expect that I would
have so knowing that we are able to allow to adjust where it can loosen depending on if I do you know gain some
muscle back but at the same time too it could be time of year it could be your the climate you’re in it could be
where you’re located there’s so many factors so the ability to choose in in
that spectrum of size and fit whenever you want absolutely and then Drew just
to answer your question if you have more shrinking on the distal end that’s why I kind of like the beauty of these
different options so where you place the adjustment the paneling the hinge the Gap design your process can put those in
the socket to accommodate to where you need that compression more
um so yeah and then Jerry yes would it be easier to put on than a regular socket if your tibia bone is pronounced yes especially if you do have a the
distal if the bottom part of your limb is a little bit bigger what we call kind of a bulbous shape and that tibia just
is also poking out and getting in the way absolutely it makes it a lot more comfortable and trying to shove it on you know with the tibia sticking out
um we’ve got beer now oh that’s my that’s one of my colleague Physical Therapy colleagues from Iceland and wreck oh am I going to pronounce this
right Reykjavik please forgive me if I mispronounce that she wants to know do you offer this kit in any countries
other than the states and also how much can you adjust this so you can adjust up
to 10 ply correct Jimmy correct me if I’m wrong you know that’s the that’s the number that we talk about
um we’ve got a couple of studies where you know there’s like a full 16 of of compression and that doesn’t that
doesn’t include the expansion right so it’s about 20 volume change is what the
the system well a three panel socket um typically can create
one of the beautiful things that that I wanted to bring back to Cosi you said
that you like this over different types of systems and I’m going to highlight just the fact that one of the coolest
Parts about the way we develop this product is it’s designed to go into a custom socket so whether whether it’s
big whether it’s small whether it’s long whether it’s short whether it’s shaped in all sorts of different ways that is
okay the prosthetist has the opportunity to then look at your body and see what it
needs and then design the socket to to move uh and compress or expand right
where you need it so that’s really that beautiful element of of how customizable the overall system is
absolutely and then Johnny V is asking what kind of maintenance is required to the adjustable socket
that depends a little bit on who you are um and I say that because you know we’ve
designed the system to be really robust and last a long time that said sockets are made out of carbon fiber which is
really sharp and some some uh amputees are very immobile some are incredibly
mobile and it really depends on the design it depends on your activity level what we typically say is hey that lace
is going to last about six months at minimum maybe it’ll last you three or four years we’ve seen it all but just be
aware that that lace should be changed out occasionally The Reel itself is guaranteed for the
life of the socket so if you ever have any issues with it or it breaks for some reason um it’s it’s backed by us and we’ll just
get you a new one you can just put a brand new one right in sounds good and then Diana says the click allows me to get back into working
out like I did prior to amputation prior to the click I would lose volume all writing in the spin bike and lots of
issues with the loose socket click allows me to tighten during the ride thanks to you for all you do and allow us get back get our lives back so you
know better testimony than that right so we are I mean I love how you guys are asking so many questions and I’m like oh
we have so much more to talk about too so I’m just briefly going to touch upon the other like I said fun toys that
click medical has to offer one of them is the revo lock and this is their suspension system this is something that
I’m a real stickler on the show is for you all to understand the difference between the shape of a socket and the suspension of a socket because I think
sometimes we get those mixed up but have no fear we’re going to be doing a whole show on suspension systems I believe
it’s in August we’ve got a suspension show coming up so we’re going to talk more about their suspension system there and then we have
one of my personal favorites the revo surface okay and we’re also doing a show on the revo surface as well so for a lot
of you who are like well I’ve got a really great comfortable socket I know I need adjustability but I’ve got a
comfortable socket otherwise and I don’t want to like Jinx that because we all know because when we fast for a new
socket it doesn’t fit quite as nicely so this is where the revo surface to me is
a really great option because you can put it onto your existing socket okay so I really really love that and I also
love the fact that you can put these systems on a check socket so if you’re just like I don’t know if this is going to work for me or not I don’t know I
want to try it out troubleshoot it you can put it on the check socket and and trial it out right so it’s very user
friendly in that regard did I get through everything I think I got through everything right yes okay
so let’s talk a little about the star about tonight so the on March 30th y’all came out with a brand new reel so
the one that I have this is one of the first models is called the boa dial and you can right so go out pop it in click click
click click click and then off you go and then to release the tension you would pull it out and the tension
releases completely right so that one was a little bit bigger an 18 millimeter
profile right and the reason why I mentioned that is the new system now is I believe 14 millimeters
so it’s a lower profile and you’re probably just like cozy four millimeters really you’re making a big deal about that but Kyle will tell you four
millimeters makes the difference doesn’t it especially you know depending on where where the placement is of that dial
um you know for above me amputees it’s right at the knee and it’s hard getting pants on and off I mean that profile
makes a big difference especially if you’re wearing pants um and getting caught on things I will
tell you the lower profile it just blends perfectly into the socket
they’ll adjust it through the clothing which is just really kind of cool absolutely you can just I mean you can
even just tell just how much closer it is versus I mean I’ve had where it was it was about out here and you can just
see that you know you can see the difference in the profile and that’s for me it makes a huge impact especially
just daily activities of putting clothes on and off that’s probably one of the most frustrating things because you have
this massive you have that you had a pretty large dial that was sticking out there and now it kind of Blends into the
socket so it’s seamless and again guys this is when I compare it to other adjustable socket systems out
there this is kind of like the most Sleek design that I’ve seen um so Jimmy tell us about like the star
part of this new click reel which is my favorite part yeah so you know we’ll talk about the
little The Reel itself but here it is in my hand you can kind of tell how how big it is
um one of the one of the things that we’ve really set out to do um and you know thank you to boa for
um in helping you know the the fact that BOA dials existed on snowboard boots helped spark the idea and then you know
we we worked with boa dials for about seven years uh was really good effect
um but we knew that there was more to more to innovate around and and as we were gathering a lot of feedback from
from users we were finding that profile was really a big deal we were finding
that that the ability to only to tighten it was and and not be able to release it
that was kind of a problem for folks and then the other thing is that you know boa dials are made they’re made
specifically for Footwear um specifically like uh the dials we were using for snowboard boots
snowboarding is a good thing I mean it’s a you know it’s also also sees some pretty extreme use but most snowboarders
snowboard about five days a year amputees use their limb every single day
right and so we were finding that the Reel just didn’t have the kind of longevity that it needed the the grip
would wear out sometimes the internal plastic components would wear out so we just said you know what let’s let’s
design a reel that’s going to really be specifically designed for the prosthetic industry let’s make it really really
strong and so we made it out of a lot of metal components that uh that can really last the life of a device
let’s make it able to be to compress um if you tighten to the right or loosen
if you if you turn to the left the ability like Kyle said earlier because there’s a there’s a gear train
that that provides a lot of power it also provides a huge amount of fidelity so if if I wind the dial up half turn
I’m going to get half a millimeter two millimeters of of compression or release
half a millimeter that’s that’s crazy you know but and you’d think it wouldn’t even make a difference but it makes a
huge difference so the ability to be able to either compress or expand with with such
Fidelity really brings a nice fit to a to a practitioner or sorry to a
patient to our amputee anytime that they need it and that really makes a big difference so those were kind of the
main things we were hoping to deliver in the new reel that we just launched last
week absolutely now how many of you here’s another quick cozy poll let’s say you’ve
got five ply on and you’re like uh it’s getting loose and you put one more ply so you’re up to six fly and you’re like
that was too tight you related like a five and a quarter ply or a five and a half ply but that
doesn’t exist in ply stock so you have to put on the six ply and Grunt and bear
and walk around until that limb shrinks down enough how many times has something like that happened to you guys in the
comment section I want to see those hands up right now all right so let’s see we’ve got some comments that came in
uh Emily asked do you have do you kind of have to ease into a new prosthesis how long should you be wearing it when
you get your first prosthesis Emily that’s a very good question I do put my patients on a wearing schedule
um especially patients who have sensitive skin and someone like yourself who has lymphedema decreased sensation
you would be somebody that I would be very conservative with the wearing schedule and getting you used to it little by little again protecting your
skin and allowing your body to get used to it so there’s no pain and no breakdown in the process yes insurance
does approve this Sean I have I’ve actually hadn’t had any problems from my patients or viewers telling me that it
was denied by their insurance um so it’s it’s it’s there
um good question Liz and actually Jimmy you could answer this one if you have the boa dial can it be changed to the
new reel easily uh you know unfortunately we did not do a backwards compatible uh system
primarily because really what it it was going to require a lot higher profile
so we would we would suggest you know keep using that socket if you’ve got a boa system but the next time that you go
in talk to them about when you’re when you’re going to be eligible for a new device and within that new device you
could move into a um a new click reel the other the other element is that you
know like cozy said that Revo surface kit can be used on existing sockets so
there’s there’s some times where it might make sense to try to move into a Revo surface scenario it just depends on
your socket and the need for for adjustability okay and then Ben Gregory to answer your
question yes these are available for our below the knee patients it just so happens that I have a bunch of AK models here with me but yes it is available for
our bks as well let’s see make sure I got all these questions Ben Gregory says
it’s a fine line between five and six Mike Davies raises hand yes you guys know what I’m talking about obviously so
Kyle tell us because you’ve you had a chance to use the boa dial and now you’re using the new click reel
tell us how you feel about the differences between the two yeah absolutely so I think the first thing I’ll start off with is the difference is
when you have the boa when you if you want to loosen or tighten you have to fully release
the release the dial in order to get to the specific size you want
yes that’s fine I think if if you are you know I think adjustability is
beautiful in an inside and out but the ability to make micro adjustments in
that moment is what’s key and so when I originally had the boa dial I would
you know I’d have to completely pop it out um and then increase the resistance to
get to the tighter fit I wanted um and unfortunately that’s not that’s not the most comfortable you know one of
the best parts about the click dial is whether it’s you know I’d be sitting here right now and let’s say I need to
loosen it I can just take a couple of couple of key turns and loosen it to the size I want or in the moment oh no I’m
actually I need it tighter because sometimes you may not get it to the exact size you wanted and the amount of
times I like popped it in and out I’m like no no no that’s tight oh dang it I went too far and that’s the funniest
things like I went too far and so you have to loosen it back up and start all over again
um and then the last thing as we mentioned before is um is just how Sleek it is um I think
the size of it mattered um knowing you know when I wear pants it got caught on things and it wasn’t that
that got frustrating um and so being able to have that low profile and it doesn’t get caught on my
clothing was really important okay very quick note one quick note on that cozy is that um you know we knew we
that was a big complaint by a lot of people and a lot of that comes from the fact that on a on a boa dial it has this
rubber grip the rubber grip is really nice because it gives you a lot of uh purchase with your fingers but boy does
it get caught on clothing so the creation of the click reel we
actually made it a plastic grip that’s actually quite slippery that’s great for clothing
if you still want the rubber for your for the for the feel or the touch or maybe you maybe you would have some hand
strength issues and you want a little bit more leverage you can put on a rubber grip and they
come in two versions that make you know the Comfort grip we call it and the power grip so there’s lots of options
there depending on your needs no it’s great especially for my folks who have fine motor uh impairment there
um Richard good question what’s the best way to get a rural prosthetist interested the same way you get an urban
process interested you squeak the wheel and you talk to them about it and you ask them a lot of questions about it
that’s honestly guys why click Medical’s on my show because two years ago so many
of you came to me with questions about adjustable socket technology and I knew I had as a clinician I had to get caught
up with the times and figure out okay what is this new technology and what is out there
um so I know you know sometimes clinicians myself included we get set in our ways and our preferences for one thing and we don’t want to look outside
the box but I think if you just keep bringing it to your classes especially if it’s a prosthetist that you have a
good relationship with that they are good at making your sockets and you just need to give them that push
push and ask them to have that conversation if this is an appropriate fit for you
and cozy we’re here to help um if if a prosthetist needs to
understand it better if they need training if they need to understand about how to bill for the insurance
coverage we are here to help them um this is the we we handle these kind of questions all day long and and know
that you can tell your process clicks here for you just give them a call we answer the phone and we’d love we’d love
to have a conversation about it they do and guys they mean it I’ve had one or two viewers that they were just like you know we’re having this issue and I
connected them with the click team and they they answered they answered the viewer right away um with regards to Diana you said you
had a problem with your insurance Diana um email me and I have a couple of things here that click just sent me
right now that we can help you out with that so please and guys let me just put my
to the show my email address I’m the only one who
answers it guys so if you have any questions in general anything about recovery from amputation
um please feel free to send me that that email to the to that email address that’s the whole purpose of this show
um or if you don’t want to necessarily ask your question live on the show I am happy to answer your question so Diana I
want you to please email me and say Cosi you said you were going to find this answer for me about the insurance and I will send you that information you do
they keep one of my toes I’m like nope that’s the whole point of the show right we have a lot of comments that came in
oh my gosh um Jenny says I find myself needing different layers of socks on the top of
the socket and then the bottom how can this fix that issue um so Jenny again just the different
ways that the adjustability can be built into this socket with the different types of designs you know like I said
we’ve got a gap design we’ve got a panel design we’ve got hidden design um it can really be placed in different
parts of the socket to accommodate for the fit uh let’s see because sometimes sometimes
people build sockets with two two systems on them um and that you know that isn’t that
isn’t right for everybody but boy there are just some conditions or some scenarios that people struggle with
um we had one guy who had three he was a line cook in a Las Vegas kitchen and he lost so much volume that you know the
first two hours he did system one the second two hours he did system two and the the last hours he did system three
so there’s a lot of options to make it work for you well can you imagine if he wouldn’t have
had those systems how many times that’s a lot that’s a lot uh Drew this
works with a variety of different suspension systems um they do have one they have at the revo lock and it’s a
mechanical suspension so it’s a mechanical lock system and again we’ll be going over suspension systems on a
different show um Kyle go ahead yeah no absolutely I think it also whether your suspension
system is suction or you can work with you know click for the but personally
you know more often than not a lot of us have used um have used the suction suspension
system and so it’ll be fine I know a lot of people have questions about what about my liners different
um because I know there’s different ways the ring is put on um whether it’s built into your liner or
it’s a external ring that you may have and I have found personally that it
works in um I’ve gone through multiple different liners and all the different versions of five what’s comfortable and it’s a click
nice there you go there you go uh let’s see has click had much dealings with the
VA we have there’s a lot of Champions within the VA that are using our product
quite often um many different VA recipients have uh
adjustable sockets it is absolutely an option wonderful and then Liz says I know my
prosthetist took the online classes and spoke with people at click mine was one of the first times he made this kind of socket wonderful
um so Jerry you know and this happens
Mary’s just mentioning that I’m you know she mentioned click to her prosthetist and they kind of brushed it off and I mentioned they had another new socket
come out in 2024 and they didn’t seem interested in that one either they make sockets at their Clinic maybe that’s why I don’t know so Jerry one thing I want
you to understand and maybe your process knows or maybe your process isn’t aware the prostitution is still the one making
the socket right what click medical is providing is all the tools needed to build the adjustability into the socket
now some of the other adjustable socket systems yes those are not built by the
prosthetist right or it’s built by a specialty clinic so it could be that your prosthetist doesn’t understand the
difference between click Medicals versus other systems and that might be something you might want to bring to their attention
I thought there was a couple of things because sorry Kyle
um you know there are some different adjustable sockets out there there’s a comment that just came in on the Martin socket
um and that’s that’s really it’s a it’s a nice adjustable socket it is it is the entire socket is made by Martin
Technologies and so a lot of prosthetists they lose a lot of control when they have to buy the entire
prosthesis from a different company the beauty about the revo fit system and
all the products that we offer is that they get integrated into the device that the prosthetist is building so it’s just
one more tool and that they can use to create functionality in a in a socket so
it once they get used to it once they see what it actually is it becomes pretty easy for them but it does take
some some uh change and change is hard yep uh so go ahead Kyle yes yes I think
there’s two things Jerry you bring up a really good point it’s so the first thing is introducing them to the click
team allowing your prosthetists to ask questions um to be curious about the technology because more than often not because I
think a lot of people um struggle with new Solutions or new ideas until they’re educated on the
solution itself and so taking the opportunity Jerry that I really encourage you that
um you as as a person the limb loss Community as well you decide what you want and more often not like you can
have the conversation with your process and would you be willing to explore this please I want to look into this and
working with them and I may be biased is that we’re always told the key thing so that’s just the
way it is um Jerry I think so many of us that if I did a poll on how many times you’ve
heard that statement it’s probably it’s you you’ve heard it multiple times in your journey but Jerry
um if this is something that you want or something you’re interested in exploring I definitely recommend
um if if your prosthetist is not willing to do it it’s also finding a practitioner that was willing to meet
the needs that you want um and ensure that you get the best fitting care and best fitting prosthetic you you deserve and again another
question and I ran into this there was one process that I respect very much is a phenomenal prosthetist and he just has
his own way of creating an adjustable socket and that’s fine and his patients were very happy and it’s a good solution
but the point is he has that option for his patients right where I have a little
bit of like a moment is when somebody will say well I just won’t make an adjustable socket and it’s like well
okay can we move outside of that box a little bit now if your prosthetist has an adjustable solution that they like to
use that patients are happy with and they’ve had experience okay then I can see why they may want to stick to that
idea but if they don’t have any kind of a solution and they don’t want to look into it then maybe a second opinion is
an order yeah time to time to ask that’s a really good point that’s a great point kosty and again so
Drew I think the biggest and again I am not guys let me just say I am not an expert on the Martin bionic system I’ve had a couple of patients with it so I
can comment generally on it um but I’m going to comment more on the comparison and Drew is asking what is the
comparison between the two they look very different they are very different systems they uh adjust in a different
way it’s a almost like a I don’t know if ratchet is the right word to use the ratchet strap is how they use the
adjustability um again I personally just like this because it’s taking a traditional socket
that you are already comfortable with that your process is already comfortable making that kind of shape and adding the adjustability into it as you need it
okay guys so what I would do you know if you if you’re wanting to compare the two find a Martin bionics practitioner and
ask them these questions they’re the ones who are who can answer this best for you in terms of the comparison between the two
um and Drew if this is something that you are thinking of making a change again go to find a prosthetist who works
with click medical and I believe there’s are there there’s a directory correct yes yes so actually Jamie can I trouble
you to put that directory so click medical has a directory online of practitioners who offer The Click
medical adjustable system so Drew if you want to look up one in your area just make an appointment and just ask them
questions right and get that consult and see what they can do for you and again I’d urge you
guys to call us our phone number’s on the website we’re happy to talk to patients we’re happy to talk to practitioners we’re happy to talk to
anybody who wants adjustability and uh and we can just learn a little bit more about what you need and then direct you
into some of our you know um even our favorite practitioners who might be in your area and help you out
that way okay um Jamie can you text me the name of our
winner for Instagram I’ve been so we’ve been so busy talking we’re having some great conversations
here so guys for those of you I don’t know if we you know if you guys got a chance to
do it but click on the Instagram click medical uh page follow it and then tell us what is your favorite feature so far
about the new click reel and put it into the comments section okay Kyle
it’s you buddy it’s all you right now sit back because you’re going to want to
hear this man’s story no and empathy that he is doing from Sports to legislature it’s all in one package
right here awesome I don’t know it’s like what are
those that you just you hand over the mic you’re like oh I just forgot your entire life story
if you want to start with the Gators that’s the story if anyone that knows me um I can get on
some really random tangent stories so I think I’m just gonna keep it in line that we don’t go down the gator story
maybe we’ll get there um but everyone as as cozy mentioned my name is Kyle step and I’ve just
um I’ve been a member of the limb loss and limb loss Community for a little over two years and I think so many of us
have had our fair share of Journeys and how we got to this point um you know for 14 years I lived with
chronic pain before my amputation um in 2008 I was diagnosed with a high
grade form of osteosarcoma and at the time my my surgeon recommended a surgery
called limb Salvage with the hopes to preserve my limb as long as possible and
unfortunately through that surgery there was a quite a few different complications that included drop foot
and a ton of muscle loss um and so for 14 years I lived with a metal plant metal a metal implant inside
my left leg from my femur my knee my my tibia into the ankle joint and wore a
carbon fiber afo and for 14 years lived with chronic pain lived with fears and
doubts and it was probably one of the hardest 14 years of my life I was living in boys homes I just you know I had
eventually you know go to college and you know I was navigating life for me personally like the struggles of coming
out as gay and like being an athlete and in 2020 I was down here doing what I love
and unfortunately came off of a jump and the metal shattered and
that day um for me it was freedom I I think so many of us that have been that
are a part of the limb loss Community I think a lot of us we’ve lived with chronic pain and we opted for electric
elective surgery because we know that life can be better and there’s more opportunity as an
individual with limb loss because of Technologies not to be biased but technology is like click and amazing
Prosthetics that are that we have accessible to us that allow us to maximize our mobility and live our lives
without the fear of anything holding us back and chronic pain and
um for me I personally found physical activity and movement to be my form of
healing Uh I that was the number one most important thing after I had my
amputation is I wanted to get my life back I’m physically active and so I
found um I found Sports and I found specifically Triathlon through an
organization called dare to try which I’m a huge believer and supporter of adaptive Sports and finding one in your
community because that’s where I found a sense of belonging that’s where I found Freedom that’s where I found my closest
friends to this day was through that and so now on this really rad journey of
pursuing uh the Paralympics in Triathlon wow amazing and it’s not just there it’s
not just there so outside of sports what have you been up
to yeah because there’s more to your story there yeah so Cosi I I think every one of us I
saw a couple of comments throughout the thread about I’m trying to get insurance to approve this or getting so frustrated
with the care I have um and deep down inside I said that’s just not the way it should be right like
that’s just not right you know when I became when I became an amputee I was really committed to being physically
active and unfortunately how to navigate the challenges of a practitioner that didn’t want to provide me the best care
I needed and had to self-adv Advocate had to had to seek out support of our
community that’s what I love so much about our community is a willingness that we’re willing to share ideas
perspectives connect each other with organizations I’ve never met a more collaborative
um and Community out there besides the limb loss and limb difference community and so through the past two years multiple
Insurance denials um just to get a basic microprocessor name to get my to be walking let alone
wanting to run again and realizing um that if any of us that want to run or
be physically active that’s a luxury and anyone that every single one of us
know that physical activity is not a luxury it’s a right um and so you know over the past you
know over the past year I had the opportunity to have a running blade donated by my prosthetist he had an old
running blade that was um actually sitting in the basement and he says you
know I I as you’re navigating getting grants or getting support for a running blade
I would love to donate this to you and I remember running for my first time
and I and I remember that feeling of just the endorphins going through my
body and just the natural spring that you feel as humans like the the the ability to experience physical activity
is a fundamental right but also just a gift um you you experience the emotional and
social medical activity and I kept questioning why can’t we get access to this why does
insurance deny this um and there was no real answer it was
just Insurance says you can’t have access to you know Prosthetics or Orthotics or
physical activity and you know Cosi um a little over eight months ago
um I learned about a young woman named Jordan passed a piece of legislation of State
in Maine she passed the legislation to provide prosthetics for kids under the
age of 18. to be able to be physically active um Jordan’s in college and she said no I
want every kid to experience what I wish I could have experienced the opportunity
to go play on the playground to go run with their friends at recess just to have that human right of physical
activity and just to be a kid just like everyone else and so I learned about what Jordan was doing and I reached out
to the American orthotic and prosthetic Association that was partnering
to expand this legislation and I said can we can can we not only expand this
legislation to kids can we do this for all ages and as well as including
orthotic users as well and so over the past six months I’ve been working with
an amazing team that I built here in New Mexico um to pass a piece of legislation not
only does Insurance fairness Insurance fairness essentially mandates that your private insurance has to cover
um your care at the same level that Medicare does which is an 80 20. so you have no more High out-of-pocket costs
um so we didn’t have insurance fairness in New Mexico so that was the first part and then second was to pass a piece of
legislation to mandate coverage for Prosthetics and Orthotics for physical activity and so if you’re an amputee no
matter what age you are or what we come from you can go through your
prosthetists to order a prosthetic orthotic for physical activity and so I’m excited to share that over the past
six months the legislation has passed in New Mexico we pass unanimously in every
in both the house and the Senate and this week the governor Michelle Lujan
Grisham will be signing our our bill into law that’s wonderful that is
amazing and what I love about it is with everything the craziness going on in our country in our world today it was both
sides of the coin agreed that this legislation in the past Five Points you know
and that’s a piece cozy is you know I think that was the one piece we all agreed on physical activity is a human
right um and it’s it’s not a privilege it’s a right and in what the most beautiful
part of all of this too is we brought the insurance companies to the table and we worked closely with them you know we
you know we had two large providers Blue Cross Blue Shield and Presbyterian Insurance
um they recognized that they should have been covering this and they said let’s work with you on ensuring that there is
you know we have there are some parameters you know lifetime restrictions as well as you know if it
does break what is that process to get it replaced um as well as how many can you order
over the course of your lifetime and we were mindful of that and having that conversation and but the exciting thing
is this this initiative is being expanded across the country
um and so we wanted a community to be a part of this um because each and every one of you
your store story matters because that’s where that’s where this changed why we are able to achieve this is because
unfortunately there there are not many elected officials that have our shared
life experiences they may not understand the challenges that you experience on a
daily basis getting access to the basic care that you deserve and and the most
beautiful part about government is we can Advocate they’re there we elect them
to represent us and we can design the system and we can
design that we deserve um and it really takes it takes each every one of us to educate those elected
officials about the broken system that exists and partner with them on creating
a better creating a better system is so that there is mobility for all and so every single one of us can access the
basic human right of physical activity and movement I love this and then Kyle I don’t know
if you’ve seen in one of the hashtags going around right now with April limb loss Awareness Month is hashtag Mobility
is not a luxury and there’s a lot going on in that statement right there and I know that you know with the 20 years that I’ve
been practicing Physical Therapy how many times I had to go up against insurance right especially when I worked
in my home health days to fight to get a couple of extra visits knowing that if I could give my patient extra Mobility
that would prevent them from being readmitted into the hospital and then really costing a lot of money so guys
and this is a point I bring up a lot with insurance companies because well it is a money thing right A lot of it is the money thing and a lot of insurance
companies are going to say well why am I going to pay extra thousands of dollars right for an extra prosthetic leg and
the way one of the one of the talking points and again you can speak directly to your insurance company and say in
order for me to stay active to stay at a healthy weight to have cardio cardiovascular health I need to be able
to have a leg that will allow me to do these activities and many of you have told me you only have one leg right and
you don’t want to do anything that could possibly risk damaging that leg because you know the insurance won’t replace it
or you’ll have to pay out of pocket or that leg simply cannot keep up with the activities that you would like to do
hiking on uneven terrain walking on a Sandy Beach being able to run being able
to ride a bicycle right it’s it’s it’s a right it should not be a luxury okay and
if you want to speak also to the insurance company to speak to them through their pockets and saying it will actually save you money in the long run to prevent all the other health issues
that I will be costing you that you will have to pay for down the line that is so
true right Emily said I just got my bill from two weeks of rehab thank God for him yes
ma’am and guys I don’t think insurance is the evil one but it just needs to be uh we need to be able to educate them on
what the needs are uh Emily also asks are there support groups for amputees yes oh my goodness yes Emily so one of
my favorite resources for support groups is the amputee Coalition okay and specifically they’re certified peer
visitor program especially for my newer amputees if you go to the amputee Coalition website Emily and look under
their certified peer visitor these are amputees that have been specially trained and they are in your community
and they pair you up with someone who’s in your zip code and they try to kind of pair you up with similar demographics so
the same gender hopefully same ampute level of amputation somebody that can be as relatable to you as possible and
that’s one great way to start there are also support groups that are sponsored by the amputee Coalition I know hanger
clinics also has several support groups throughout the nation Kyle I know you’ve got some resources you can probably tell
us about yeah absolutely what it’s really awesome is our friends at living with amplitude
um I’m gonna send I’m gonna send a link to to Jamie so she can drop in they actually created a state-by-state
resource guide everything you can dream of of needing it just came out this week
um I had a conversation with Larry yeah I know kosi when you see this it is then someone get on Larry it is is
beautifully in-depth um and so it gives you every resource you can imagine when it comes to the
limb loss and limb difference community and you can actually break it down state by state okay so memory
once again I put my email address did I put the right email address hang on hang on
that’s the correct email address cozy at cozytalks.com Emily your homework assignment is to send me an email and
say Cosi you’re supposed to get that guide from Kyle and I will go get that guide from Kyle okay
Jamie just dropped it yeah Jamie you’re awesome that’s great
okay so Emily says I go to Hanger Clinic Emily I’ve I’ve had a chance to speak at several Hanger Clinic support groups
around the nation they’re wonderful they’re wonderful and they’re run by wonderful people one of my favorite ones
I don’t know if she’s listening in tonight Elizabeth down in South Florida she’s one of my favorite people um and she runs one of the South Florida
support groups for hanger clinics uh Leslie green is another one that she’s everywhere running support groups for
hanger as well so guys so there there’s a lot of options for you so Emily get in touch with your Hanger Clinic and ask
them and then click on that link right there that Jamie just posted guys we gotta do one more give y’all want
another giveaway I got stuff to give away y’all want another giveaway all right so we have
ooh three-month supply of the liner wand which I know Kyle is a very big fan I
won’t be talking about that in just a minute so we’ve got a three month supply of the liner wand kit okay and Jamie is
going to post another link and it’s I want you to go and look at this link and you’re gonna see the name
of two Revo fit mentors right so click has amazing people like Kyle to answer a
lot of your questions and they have two folks that are mentors and they’re on this link she’s gonna put it in just a
minute Emily
let’s go there it is okay so there’s the link click on that link guys I want you to tell me the name of one of those
mentors and put it into the comments section that’s where we choose our winners from so if you want a chance at
the the liner wants uh three month kit you got to put it in the comments section who are one of the mentors
for revofit all right so Thomas asks a question can you give an example of what
the boundaries are for an extra prosthesis for Mobility
Thomas can you clarify what you mean by boundaries I’m not sure I understand
your question [Music]
like working with insurers that there were some boundaries to the oh yes great
question um so Thomas so an example of a boundary is when we when we had a conversation on
um how often those devices can be replaced and so we we worked really
closely with industry standards and so um depending on the state we pass our legislation is that it can be replaced
after three to five years so knowing that the lifetime of most Prosthetics and um are often three to five years so
that’s one and then a second boundary is identifying
um we actually passed the legislation where it’s one additional um prosthetic or orthotic for physical
activity um and so personally that was a big that was a conversation that they had is we
we want to make sure that individuals with limb loss or limb difference can get back to physical activity but the
reality is they know that there’s a lot of costs when it comes to um you can have a quiver of legs if you
really wanted to like one for rock climbing one for running one for skiing um but the route is how we got this
passes they agreed everyone should have physical activity but we’re going to limit it to one one physical activity
that you that the patient can choose and it’s a relationship between the patient and the physician
to decide what is the best physical activity for them so those are the two parameters so thanks for that question
Thomas but okay thank you for answering that Kyle
and Drew if you look up a little bit the link it was posted by click medical and
yes it is on Facebook and YouTube okay let me see it won’t allow me to do
it hang on let me see if I can type it in there for you drew
okay so Drew I just posted the link myself it should pop right up on your screen uh let’s see so Mike you had made
you made the comment that your process is not on the list of providers but it seems like an awesome product so again
Mike ask your prosthetist it could be that your prosthetist is undergoing the training there that they’ve heard about it and they just need that extra little
push from from you and their patient to say okay let me look into this and again you can say this is the direct links and
the direct number to click medical to start to start doing this and I don’t
know if you remember the earlier comment Liz I think it was that she said she was her proper this first time doing the
click medical um adjustable system and she’s very happy with it so that to me just kind of
indicates that the process can very easily learn how to do um this use this system and incorporate
it into the sockets um with the training that you provide
okay so you all can see it oh for some reason it was showing the one that I provided okay
