Update on Nick Gibb: Eyes on Tokyo 2020

Life is a lot like biking: there are ups and downs, it gets rocky, and sometimes you crash. But for Nick Gibb, life is biking. For those of you who didn’t read our initial story on Nick, he was hit with a pressure hose just below his left knee while he was working at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, causing his left leg to break into 40-50 pieces. Although his leg was salvaged, through the use of an external fixator, plates, and a cadaver bone, Gibb was just on the start of his journey. During his time in the ICU Gibb had nine surgeries and ended up getting three dead muscles removed from his leg.

Years later and now living in Bend, Oregon, Nick has his sights for the best in athletic competition: Tokyo 2020. Despite the difficulties he has faced, Gibb remains positive saying, “There are the little strides that I try to make, and just trying to make small gains and to really appreciate those small gains and not overlook that too much.” It’s clear to see that despite the rocky patches Gibb has had on the trail of life, there is nothing that could make him stop riding.
